When many people think of fast food, one country comes to mind, the United States. America is indeed the founder of fast food. The first fast food restaurant was created in Kansas, in 1921. They served foods like hamburgers which were previously considered “low class” and were mainly sold as street food. The first fast food restaurant changed America’s view of these foods. And as cars Becca me more popular, Americans like to eat fats food more when they traveled. Eventually more fast food restaurants became popular like Burger King and Wendy’s and they spread to other countries and a crossed the world. The first McDonald’s franchise was opened in 1995. Later when Obama was first elected president Michelle Obama expressed concern over her own family’s health and decided to try to reduce the amount of fast food Americans were consuming. Michelle funded social media campaigns , and worked with lawmakers and schools to change the quality of food that America’s are. Through her leadership school lunches have been “improved” . However, despite this fast food still contributes to a lot of child obesity. Every day nearly 1/3 of children 4 to 19 eat fast food. And research shows that this contributes to six extra kinds per year. And increases the risk of child obesity and other diseases such as diabetes. In conclusion, the are many benefits to fast food because it allows people to eat quickly while they are traveling. But it does cause a lot of harm especially to the young.
