  • Jim crow law

The term "Jim Crow" is the name of a black character in an old song: jump jim crow. Thomas Dartmouth, an English immigrant who was living in the USA, wrote this song.

But Since 1837, we used Jim Crow to speak about Social segegation .

Jim crow law is the nickname of a lot of lows passed in the south America between 1876 and 1964. The citizens were separated in social classes and just equal in these classes.

Segregation was at school, in the bus or in the square.

Jim Crow Law foresaw the physical separation of black people from write people.

. The "separate but equal" standard established by the Supreme Court in Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) lent high judicial support to segregation.

Ex example about the social discrimination in America:

Montgomery bus operators were supposed to separate people into two sections: whites up front and blacks in back

A few black persons protested, notably Rosa Parks, things began to change.

On December 1955, Parks refused to give her seat to a white man. She was arrested, and incarcerated.

By the 1960s, the Supreme Court, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, invalidated the majority of Jim Crow laws. It was the end of “Jim Craw lows”.
